DELHI DECLARATION

All India Gharib Nawaz Conference
3rd & 4th December 07, New Delhi

The revered Sufis have played a crucial role in fostering India’s composite culture and pluralistic society. Through their words and actions, they have bridged gaps between communities, transforming ill-will into constructive forces. They embraced native languages, lived among the people, and spread a message of love and selfless service across all regions and social classes.

Dargahs, Khanqahs, and shrines have long been places of refuge for all, regardless of religious identification. These sacred places continue to serve as symbols of peace, despite the growing threats of terrorism and communal discord. The Ajmer Sharif bomb blast has highlighted the urgent need to unite and protect these spiritual centers from terrorist attacks.

This historic Sufi gathering unanimously announces the formation of the Sufi Federation of India, led by Sheikh-e-Tariqat Syed Muhammad Jilani Ashraf Kichauchavi. This organization aims to restore love, brotherhood, justice, and development in society. The government must ensure the safety of all religious shrines and expedite the investigation into the Ajmer Sharif blast to restore public faith

The Delhi Declaration, presented at the All India Gharib Nawaz Conference (December 3-4, 2007, New Delhi), emphasizes the significant role of Sufis in fostering India’s composite culture, unity, and peace. It highlights how Sufis have historically bridged communal divides by adopting local languages, mingling with people, and spreading a message of love and selfless service. Dargahs, Khanqahs, and shrines have long been sanctuaries for people of all religions, offering spiritual healing and solace.

In light of increasing threats from terrorism and communal violence, particularly after the Ajmer Sharif bomb blast, the declaration calls for strong measures to protect these sacred places. It states that terrorist attacks not only harm religious sites but also threaten national peace and stability.

To counteract these threats and promote social harmony, Sheikh-e-Tariqat Syed Muhammad Jilani Ashraf Kichauchavi has been appointed as the coordinator of a newly established organization, the Sufi Federation of India. This organization is tasked with preserving the message of love, brotherhood, justice, and development in society. It will also work towards safeguarding religious shrines and ensuring peace in the country.

The declaration urges the government of India to take immediate steps to protect Dargahs, Khanqahs, and other religious sites, ensure justice for the victims of terrorist attacks, and expedite the investigation into the Ajmer Sharif blast to restore public faith and communal harmony.
